The variety is a local genotype formed through long-term selection in chestnut groves of the Campania region. It is intended for the production of high-quality fruit characteristic of the Marrone variety group.

Agronomically, the variety is characterized by susceptibility to a number of pathogens, including fungal diseases such as chestnut fruit rot and chestnut blight, and is also subject to damage by the Oriental chestnut gall wasp.
