The variety is a historically established ecotype that arose as a result of natural selection in the Val Pellice valley at altitudes from 500 to 1000 meters above sea level. The fruit ripening period falls between October 15 and October 25.
The fruits are used for making glazed chestnuts, creams, desserts, and chestnut flour. The variety is characterized by good pellicle separability, which is an advantage for industrial processing.
