Marrone Fiorentino represents a group of ancient clonal ecotypes of Castanea sativa, which have been vegetatively propagated for centuries in the Tuscany and Umbria regions. This is not a single breeding variety, but a collection of local forms with a common genotype, used for the production of high-quality products.

The fruits have an ellipsoidal shape, an average weight of 14–20 g, and a thin reddish-brown shell with dark stripes, which easily separates from the flesh. The white flesh has a sweet taste, making them suitable for fresh consumption and for processing. The trees are characterized by a vigorous, expansive growth habit and longevity, however, they may be susceptible to brown rot.
