Under the general name PILONGA, several different clonal varieties are hidden, such as Pilonga de Parauta, Pilonga de Jubrique and Pilonga de Igualeja. This is not a single breeding variety, but rather a historically established genetic resource formed as a result of folk selection.

The fruits of these varieties are characterized by good size, excellent taste qualities and ease of peeling the pellicle, due to which they are highly sought after in cooking. Traditionally, the harvest is used for producing dried chestnuts. The plants are adapted to the climatic conditions of the Sierra de Ronda mountain area, but are susceptible to diseases and pests typical of the crop.
