The nuts of the Pourette variety are round in shape, have a shiny surface, and a distinct hilum. The variety is early-maturing, with nuts ripening in early October. The plant is characterized by sensitivity to wind exposure.

The variety is an heirloom cultivar selected by local inhabitants for its high culinary qualities. Due to its confectionery characteristics, the nuts are traditionally used for making chestnut cream and for the production of dried chestnuts. The variety is included in the list permitted for the Protected Designation of Origin (AOP) "Châtaigne d'Ardèche".
