The variety has a number of synonyms, such as Pentecosa, Pontecosi, Puntecose and Punticosa. It historically grows in the Garfagnana areas and in the Apuan Alps. This variety is not a product of modern breeding, but belongs to the genetic resources maintained by local communities for centuries.
