The Rubiera variety is the result of centuries of folk breeding and selection of the highest quality trees in the northern part of Italy. Scientific literature classifies it as a historical genotype within the framework of research on the diversity of chestnut plantations.

Specialized agronomic characteristics, such as precise plant height parameters, maturity group, or disease resistance indices, are absent in open publications. The variety is traditionally used for fruit production within chestnut orchards.
