The Ruiana variety, also known as Ruiana di Villar Pellice or Ruiana Venaus, is cultivated in the Pellice Valley in northwestern Italy. Trees of this variety are often found in old orchards, with ages reaching 120–150 years.
The fruits of the variety are characterized by good consumer properties and antioxidant capacity. The variety is a subject of study using molecular-genetic methods for the identification of specific local genotypes within the Piedmontese gene pool.
