The variety is the result of centuries of folk selection and adaptation to the climatic conditions of the valleys of the Cuneo province. It is officially included in the disciplinary regulations defining the raw material base for products with the IGP Castagna Cuneo Protected Geographical Indication.

Specific agronomic characteristics, such as plant height, maturity dates, or disease resistance, are not described in public documents. The fruits of the variety are permitted for use in both fresh and dried forms and are characterized by a sweet taste and the crunchiness of the epicarp.
