The variety SELVASCHINA (also known as Selvaschina di Bernezzo) is a historically selected local ecotype common in the Cuneo province of the Piedmont region. The plant possesses a genetic profile distinct from the widespread Marrone variety.

Fruits of this variety are traditionally used for fresh consumption. Scientific studies identify the variety as one of the few local genotypes exhibiting particular resistance to damage by the chestnut gall wasp (Dryocosmus kuriphilus).
