ActiveCastanea sativa Mill. · Sweet chestnut
PEDRO URQUIJO LANDALUCE
10 August 2026
The variety is a local Italian genotype of folk selection, traditionally used for fruit production. In a number of genetic analyses, it is classified as belonging to the high-quality Marroni chestnut group, however, it can also be found as an independent local variety.
In studies of pathogen resistance, the variety shows low susceptibility to fruit brown rot caused by the fungus Gnomoniopsis castaneae. In scientific literature, the variety is sometimes mentioned as part of a group of genetically similar samples, which requires the use of molecular methods for accurate identification.
