The fruits of this chestnut are used for fresh consumption and for drying. There was also a tradition of using these chestnuts to create decorative items in the form of beads.

This chestnut represents a local form maintained within the framework of biodiversity conservation, and appears in studies and agronomic registers under the name «Selvatico nero» or «Nivura».
