The Gillette variety is a bud mutation of the Washington Navel orange and belongs to the navel orange group. Plants of this variety are characterized by vigorous growth, forming a rounded canopy with dense foliage, and are capable of reaching a height of 4.5 to 7.5 meters at maturity.

In agronomic studies, the variety is considered a cultivar that helps extend the citrus harvest season. When grown in certain regions, the variety showed sensitivity to stubborn disease, caused by Spiroplasma citri, which resulted in fruit miniaturization, deformation, and shoot dieback.
