The variety is the result of a spontaneous bud mutation discovered in the Italian province of Syracuse. For propagation, the material was grafted onto a bitter orange rootstock and underwent a procedure of elimination of viral and viroid infections.
The fruits are characterized by pronounced anthocyanin coloration, which appears at the end of November and acquires a violet hue by mid-December. The flavor of the fruits contains notes of blackberry and raspberry, while the taste qualities remain high even with intense pigmentation. Breeding work is being conducted with consideration for resistance to the Citrus tristeza virus.
