Star Ruby
ActiveCitrus x paradisi Macfad. · Grapefruit
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to nucellar lines obtained by growing seedlings from seeds that developed from nucellar tissues. This method allows for the production of progeny genetically identical to the mother plant, but cleared of certain viruses transmitted via grafting.
The variety was actively used in California breeding programs to study growth, yield, and resistance to stubborn disease. It retains the fruit characteristics typical of the original Marsh variety, while being a commercially significant material with improved phytosanitary status.
