The rootstock was bred at the East Malling Research station and is used exclusively as a dwarfing rootstock for pear. Trees on EMH rootstock occupy an intermediate position in vigor between EMC and EM A rootstocks, producing stronger plants than Quince C rootstock.

This rootstock shows good compatibility with pear varieties Conference, Doyenné du Comice, and Abate Fetel. Trees grafted onto it demonstrate good productivity, improved fruit size, and produce practically no root suckers.
