The plant reaches a height of 90–100 cm. A distinctive morphological feature of the variety is the absence of spines on the stalks, which simplifies their culinary preparation.

To obtain a high-quality product, a blanching technique is used, consisting of tying and covering the leaves with light-proof material, which reduces bitterness and makes the stalks more tender.

The variety is used in commercial production as a vegetable crop, and is also used as a rootstock for artichoke to increase the latter's resistance to Verticillium wilt.
