The variety is the result of a breeding program involving selection and open pollination of initial populations. The plant is classified as a perennial crop, however, in a number of regions, it is cultivated as an annual or biennial with mandatory winter protection.
Externally, the variety is distinguished by a horizontal leaf arrangement with medium intensity of dissection. To obtain marketable stalks, which resemble the taste of an artichoke after heat treatment, tying and shading with dark material for blanching is practiced at the end of summer.
