The plant has a distinctive architectural appearance with large, deeply lobed grey-green leaves. Mature specimens reach a height of 1.5 to 2.5 meters. The variety produces heavy globular heads with fleshy bracts that are characterized by reduced prickliness.

The artichoke requires a sunny location, fertile soil, and protection from severe frosts; in temperate climates, it is often grown as an annual. Yield is most pronounced from the second year after planting. If buds are not harvested, they open into large purple flowers.

When propagated by seeds, varietal traits may vary due to cross-pollination; therefore, vegetative propagation methods, such as crown division or the use of offshoots, are preferred to preserve quality.
