Variety description

The variety forms a vigorous plant with a height from 80 to 200 cm with a rosette of large, often prickly, gray-green leaves. The medium-sized inflorescences have a rounded shape and a characteristic violet-purple color of the bracts. When grown from seeds, harvest can be expected in the first or second year; the maturation period is 120–130 days.

The heads are valued for their delicate nutty taste and lack of coarse fibers if harvested when young. The produce is suitable for consumption in raw, pickled, and cooked forms. The variety is not winter-hardy and requires covering or digging up the rhizomes in regions with cold winters.

Due to its decorative foliage and inflorescences, the variety is used in landscape design. If the inflorescences are not cut, they open into large purple flowers that attract pollinators.
