The variety is an autochthonous population grown for grain production and as a honey plant. The plant is characterized by white flowers and small grayish seeds, adapted for cultivation in lowland and hilly conditions.
The plants are distinguished by specific physiological responses to water deficit and resistance to diseases and pests. The leaves fall off after the first autumn frosts. The variety serves as a basis for breeding programs to develop new buckwheat varieties in Slovenia.
Scientific research on the variety includes analysis of endosperm protein composition and study of starch granule structure. Due to its origin as a landrace, the variety is inferior to modern breeding counterparts in terms of yield.
