The Korina variety is an intergeneric hybrid of Festuca × Lolium, obtained by crossing Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) followed by backcrossing. In official registers, the variety is classified as a festulolium, not as a pure tall fescue.

The primary purpose of the variety is for use in forage production to create productive pastures and hayfields; in some cases, it can be used as a turf grass. The hybrid possesses high dry matter yield and improved resistance to summer stress and drought compared to ryegrass while maintaining intensive growth rates.
