The Colar Elche variety (synonym Albacor) belongs to the bifera group, which allows for two harvests per season: breba on previous year's wood and the main crop on current year's shoots. The ripening period for breba lasts from the third week of June to mid-July, and for the main crop from August to September.
The fruits have purple skin, firm flesh, and high sugar content. The plant is well adapted to rain-fed growing conditions. In commercial use, the fruits are valued for their suitability for transport, although in some cases, skin cracking of the fruits has been observed.
