The name Datto is often found in historical agronomic works of the early 20th century and in the works of Italian botanists. It is closely associated with the Dalmatie (Die Dalmatie) variety and a number of other synonyms, such as Datte, Fico Madama Rosso, Fico Rossete, and Fico Datti.
Trees of this type are characterized by slow growth, the presence of many thin branches, and green terminal buds. In the northern regions of Italy, fruits of the first harvest of this type were especially highly valued.
The variety is not the result of modern breeding and is found primarily in historical botanical collections. Given that the name is historically a variety-type synonym, complete agronomic characteristics for it are unavailable.
