The variety was developed by specialists from Oregon State University in collaboration with the USDA based on the Magnum variety and an unknown male plant. It is a mid-late variety created to improve the resistance of plantings to powdery mildew and downy mildew.

The plant demonstrates medium to high yield, forming medium to large cones. The chemical composition is characterized by an alpha-acid content of 13.5–17.0% and beta-acids of 7.2–9.1%, with a cohumulone level of 36–38%.

The primary purpose of the variety is to impart bitterness to beer when added early in the brewing process. The aromatic profile is described as mild, including earthy, citrus, as well as wine or balsamic undertones.
