The Izu-no-hana variety was discovered on the Izu Peninsula in Japan. The plant belongs to the Lacecap group and forms inflorescences consisting of central fertile flowers surrounded by sterile marginal star-shaped flowers on long pedicels.
The color of the petals varies from pink to blue or purple depending on the soil acidity level. The shrub is medium-sized and reaches a height of about 1.5 meters over ten years of development.
The plant is considered relatively winter hardy in European conditions. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and requires protection from direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
