The variety Mesoud (trade name Blue Confidence) is a representative of the Ilex × meserveae hybrid group, obtained by crossing Ilex aquifolium and Ilex rugosa. The plant possesses the characteristic features of this group: an evergreen crown, glossy leaves, and the ability to form red fruit in the presence of female individuals.

The variety was developed to improve winter hardiness in the climatic conditions of USDA zone 5. The plant is dioecious; therefore, the presence of a male pollinator variety is required for fruiting of female specimens. The variety is used in landscape design for creating hedges and winter garden decor.
