The Stadion variety belongs to the lawn grass category and was bred by specialists at the Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute (IHAR) in Radzików. In scientific literature, the variety is mentioned in the context of Polish breeding of the late 1980s – early 1990s.

The plant is used in research and breeding of lawn grasses. In particular, the variety appears in scientific papers devoted to studying snow mold infection in perennial ryegrass to assess its susceptibility to this disease.
