The variety is a bud mutation of the Red Delicious variety discovered in South Tyrol. The tree has a spur-type growth habit of medium vigor, making it suitable for use on dwarfing rootstocks. The fruits have an elongated shape with pronounced ribs around the calyx and an intense dark red color.

The variety is highly productive and bears fruit consistently, allowing for harvest to begin earlier than a number of other Red Delicious group clones. Standard varieties such as Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala, and Idared are recommended for cross-pollination.
