Harreslev æble belongs to old Danish apple varieties and is part of the Pometet national genetic resources collection. The variety is used as source material in breeding projects aimed at creating resistant crops for organic gardening that excludes chemical treatments.

The variety is diploid and possesses a specific set of S-RNase alleles (S3, S7). Studies note its use in crosses to obtain lines with cider apple characteristics, possessing a bittersweet or sweet and bitter-sweet taste.

Detailed characteristics of fruit commercial qualities and morphological parameters of the adult tree are limitedly presented in literature, as this variety is considered primarily as an object of the genetic pool and a breeding resource.
