The variety was obtained as a result of crossing Jonathan and Prima varieties. The variety possesses genetic resistance to apple scab and fire blight, which allows its use in organic fruit growing to reduce chemical treatments.

The variety is valued for its taste qualities, flesh texture, and content of biologically active substances. During production trials, slower rates of yield increase were noted compared to a number of other varieties.
