The variety is known in the literature as Oberdiecks Taubenapfel. It belongs to the Taubenapfel group, which translates as "pigeon apple".

Under modern conditions, the variety is considered rare and amateur, occurring sporadically. The inclusion of the variety in the German Fruit Gene Bank database is due to the need to preserve biological diversity.
