The variety is a chance seedling known since 1669. The tree is characterized as vigorous, requiring crown formation and rootstocks to control growth. Flowering is early, which makes the blossoms sensitive to late spring frosts; the variety is prone to biennial bearing and is triploid, requiring pollinators.

Fruits ripen from late August to mid-September, often unevenly. They have a ribbed shape, thin yellow skin with red stripes, and are distinguished by high juiciness and a pronounced wine-like aroma. The variety has poor keeping quality and high sensitivity to mechanical damage, and it can also be susceptible to fungal diseases.
