The variety Thoras æble was obtained in 1924 in the area of Hasle near Aarhus. Since 1938, the variety became known in Denmark, and in 1939 it was included in cultivation recommendations, but subsequently it gained practically no distribution.

The plant is a diploid variety (2N). Information regarding maturity group, tree height, disease resistance, and fruit quality is absent, as is data on the specific purpose of the variety.
