The variety is an ancient local variety of Sicily. In modern scientific research, it is considered as part of the gene pool of traditional apple trees suitable for quality improvement programs.

Physicochemical indicators of the fruits are characterized by a high potassium content compared to a number of other varieties. The variety is mainly used for fresh consumption, while detailed morphological characteristics of the plant, such as height or disease resistance, are not described in publications.
