The variety is a chance seedling discovered in the second half of the 18th century in the Neuwieder Becken region. The fruits reach harvest maturity in October, consumer maturity begins from the end of December, and storage is possible until June.

The fruits are medium-sized, green in color with a reddish marbled blush. The flesh is firm, acidic, with a low sugar content and a characteristic aroma. The variety is traditionally classified as an industrial one and is widely known in Southern Germany as a raw material for the preparation of beverages.
