The variety is considered very old, presumably of German origin, introduced into cultivation in the 16th century. The tree is characterized by strong growth vigor, a powerful trunk, and a large spreading crown. It begins bearing fruit late, but is distinguished by regular and good yields. The variety is triploid, therefore it does not act as a pollinator.
The fruits are of medium size, conical in shape, dark red in color with visible lenticels and a possible purple hue in the sun. The flesh remains firm and acidic until winter, becoming juicier over time and acquiring a sweet-and-sour taste with spicy notes. The harvest is collected in the second half of October; the fruits have outstanding keeping quality, maintaining their consumer qualities until May.
The variety is undemanding regarding growing conditions, preferring deep, fertile, heavy, and moist soils. It tolerates the harsh conditions of high-altitude areas well, characterized by high frost resistance and resistance to diseases. The fruits are versatile in use: suitable for fresh consumption, drying, and the production of juices and wine.
