The French rootstock Lizzy is used for establishing new orchards and growing vigorous varieties on good soils. In the first years after planting, its productivity is comparable to or exceeds that of the Pajam 1 rootstock, and it provides good fruit sizing. Characteristic features are the formation of a small amount of root suckers and a specific shape of the graft union, resembling a bottle neck.
The British apple variety Lizzy, bred at the Long Ashton Research Station, is a processing crop intended exclusively for cider production. Its morphological characteristics and juice chemical composition are unrelated to the characteristics of the French rootstock of the same name.
