The variety is a small tree or large shrub 4–7 meters tall with a spreading, rounded crown. The leaves have a red-purple or bronze hue when budding, turn dark green in summer, and acquire a red-orange color in autumn.
Flowering occurs in May–June with simple purple-pink flowers 3–4 cm in diameter. The fruits are small, purple-brown or garnet-red, ripen by September, and often remain on the branches for a long time.
The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness (zones 4–5) and tolerance to urban conditions. The plant is sensitive to scab and may be affected by powdery mildew; it prefers sunny locations and well-drained, fertile soils.
