The variety is traditional for the Somontano region in the Huesca province. It is included in the list of main authorized varieties for the production of olive oil with a Protected Designation of Origin, where its content in the oil blend must be at least 85%.

The tree is adapted to local climatic conditions and is frequently found in century-old olive groves. Oil obtained from the fruits of the Albareta variety possesses intense notes of freshly cut grass, olive leaf, almond, tomato, and green fruit.
