DA-12 I is not an independent variety for commercial production. It is used as a clonal rootstock for research purposes for grafting various oil and table varieties.

A key characteristic of this rootstock is resistance to verticillium wilt, caused by the fungus Verticillium dahliae. Research has also been conducted on its resistance to various species of nematodes, including Xiphinema index, Meloidogyne spp., and Pratylenchus vulnus.
