The variety is an indigenous Greek plant, genetically related to olive populations in the Aegean region. In scientific literature, Dafnelia is identified as a synonym for the Spanish variety Lechín de Granada. The variety is recognized as a historically significant genetic ancestor of many Mediterranean olives.
Fruits of this variety are characterized by late maturity. Their oil content is about 30%, with a pulp-to-pit ratio of 6:1. The plant possesses good resistance to low temperatures. The variety is intended for olive oil production.
