The tree is distinguished by a weeping or semi-weeping branch growth habit that forms a broad crown, with growth vigor ranging from medium to high. The variety is self-sterile and requires pollinators, while it is often used itself to pollinate other varieties such as Frantoio, Leccino, and Pendolino.
Fruit ripening occurs late and is prolonged over time. The fruits are of medium size and are ovoid or elongated-ovoid in shape. Plants of this type are characterized by relative resistance to climatic stress and sea winds.
The primary use of the produce is to obtain high-quality oil with a balanced flavor featuring notes of almond, freshly cut grass, and artichoke. Since the name is a collective synonym for various local forms, it is most often associated with the Carpellese variety from the Campania region.
