Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to Apulia and was historically distributed between the 9th and 18th centuries. The primary purpose of the fruit is the production of high-quality olive oil. In traditional groves, large trees are found with a height of 7–9 meters and a canopy volume of up to 360 m³.

The variety shows high susceptibility to Olive Quick Decline Syndrome, caused by the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa. When using mechanical vibrators for harvesting from large trees, efficiency is 73–90%. Furthermore, the variety is used in in vitro studies for the production of verbascoside.
