The name is dialectal and translates as "olive for oil," designating a group of local varieties of the Sorrento Peninsula, among which Minucciolo dominates. These plants belong to ancient local forms and are cultivated exclusively for oil production.
The trees possess medium to above-medium vigor with an upright canopy and productive pendulous branches. Varieties of this group are characterized by resistance to drought, low temperatures, and the fungal disease "peacock spot," however, they are sensitive to the olive fruit fly.
The plants are high-yielding and not prone to sharp fluctuations in fruiting from year to year. Oil yield ranges from 20% to 22%. The flowers are self-sterile and require cross-pollination for fruit set.
