The variety is autochthonous to the provinces of Avellino and Benevento. The plant is characterized by average growth vigor, a dense, compact crown, and an ascending branch orientation.
The fruits change color from green to blue-black upon ripening. The skin is shiny, lacks a waxy bloom, and is covered with small lenticels. The variety has high oil content, with an oil yield of 19–20%.
The name OLIVIELLO TONDO often acts as a synonym for such varieties as Oliva Tonda, Pallara, Ritonna, Solevara, Sorvara, and Uddanella.
