The variety is a local genotype for the province of Lecce and belongs to the category of minor varieties preserved within the framework of research projects on the protection of olive biodiversity. It is not a product of breeding, but represents a genetic resource found in old or marginal plantings.

The fruits of the variety are suitable for producing Extra Virgin olive oil. Scientific studies confirm that the content of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant activity of the oil from this variety correspond to the typical indicators for Southern Italian olive oils.
