The variety is autochthonous to the Calabria region, particularly the province of Reggio Calabria and the surroundings of the Aspromonte mountains. Trees of this variety are characterized as majestic, while the plant is considered difficult to cultivate due to low and alternate bearing, requiring meticulous care and systematic pruning.

Oil from the fruits of this variety is distinguished by a balanced flavor with notes of freshly cut grass, artichoke, green apple, tomato, and almond. The product is characterized by moderate bitterness and pungency, as well as a high content of polyphenols and vitamin E.
