The Orfana tree is characterized by medium to above-average vigor, forming a dense spreading canopy of a semi-pendulous type. Flowering occurs in the period from late May to early June, and fruit ripening concludes in the second ten-day period of November. The variety is self-compatible and begins bearing fruit from the fourth year; however, mature trees are characterized by biennial bearing.
Fruits are large, weighing 7.5–8.2 g, have an ellipsoidal asymmetrical shape, and change color from green to dark as they ripen. The variety possesses good resistance to cold and diseases, but is sensitive to the olive fruit fly. The oil obtained from it is distinguished by a delicate taste with aromas of meadow grasses, peas, artichoke, and celery.
