Paesana Bianca and Paesana Nera are local cultivars adapted to the conditions of the Volturno valley. They are not breeding varieties obtained through scientific work, but belong to the category of local folk selection.

The fruits of these varieties are used for olive oil production, often in blends, for example, in Molise D.O.P. protected designation of origin oil. Genetic studies confirm the status of these varieties as independent cultivars, however, their detailed agronomic characteristics are limited.
